The Women in Black Story
Arthur Kipps is a junior solictor who has to travel to a secluded home called Eel Marsh House. This house is situated in the salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway on the bleak East Coast of England.
Until recently, it belonged to an old lady called Alice Drablow but she has died and Arthur has been tasked with attending her funueral and then sorting out the paperwork for her estate. At her funeral Arthur sees a young women, dressed in black with a wasted, gaunt-looking face at the back of the church. He is unable to confront her and begins asking around about who this lady is. The locals refuse to talk to him or to even acknowledge that she exists. Arthur has to wait until he seems her again to find out who she really is and her terrible purpose. This gripping piece of theatre engages the audience from the very start.
The clever effects create an uncomfortable atmosphere that sets up the horrific climax. Be prepared for The Women in Black.

About the Women in Black – The Play
The Women in Black follows the same genre of horror as M.R James, Henry James and Edith Wharton. The storyline and the suggestive undertones feed your mind with with all manner of possiblities. Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation for the stage remains entirely true to the book itself and uses much of Susan Hill's own descriptive writing and dialogue, while transforming the novel into a totally gripping piece of theatre.
